About SAV Calgary

Sexual Assault Voices of Calgary is a broad based coalition of front line organizations, non-profits, Alberta Health Services, and the Calgary Police Service who share a common vision to reduce the number of sexual assaults in Calgary and its surrounding area by reaching out to and targeting those who commit them.

Together we are working to create a world without sexual violence.

Sexual Assault Voices of Calgary got it's start in late 2009 when the Collaborative Services Education Team (CSET) formed in response to a need to raise awareness of sexual assault services and the prevention of this crime. Initially the group was considered a sub-group of the Connect Family and Sexual Abuse Network and consisted of Alberta Health Services (AHS), Calgary Police Service (CPS), Calgary Communities Against Sexual Abuse (CCASA), Homefront and the Crown's Office.

The Sexual Assault Voices of Calgary was formally founded in May of 2011 with the goal of raising awareness around the laws consent and shifting the focus on sexual assault prevention methods. For many years prevention of this crime was victim focused but with the adoption of the "Don't Be That Guy" campaign which was created by Sexual Assault Voices of Edmonton in 2011 SAV Calgary sought to rethink the way we look at prevention and focus instead on the offenders who commit these crimes.

Over the years and through multiple phases of the "Don't Be That Guy" campaign SAV Calgary has expanded to include numerous agencies including The Association of Alberta Sexual Assault Services (AASAS), Calgary Sexual Health, The Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter (CWES), The Red Cross and the YWCA of Calgary.

But with expansion and growth our mission to change the way we view this crime and educate the public around consent has never wavered.

Remember...

Offenders are 100% responsible for their actions, and are making a choice to commit a crime of sexual assault against another person.

The only way to prevent sexual violence is to hold offenders NOT survivors accountable for their actions.
